SOLAR SHIP’S NEW OFF-GRID HANGAR NAMED CANSIA'S 'GAME CHANGER PROJECT OF THE YEAR’
May 24, 2016
The Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA), a national trade association that represents solar energy companies in Canada, has named Solar Ship’s Brantford off-grid hangar project, with system implementation provided by Canadian Energy, as 'Game Changer Project of the Year'.
The award, which was presented to Solar Ship and Canadian Energy at the 2016 CanSIA 'Game Changer Awards' held at the Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario, acknowledges the rapidly changing landscape in solar deployment, where large off-grid buildings can now cost-effectively supply their own power needs using photovoltaic power and battery storage, rather than relying on a utility grid connection or a diesel generator. This award honours Solar Ship (project owner and developer) and Canadian Energy (system supplier) for demonstrating a reliable and cost-effective system that brings the future of building-integrated distributed generation forward to today – a future that puts Canadian renewable energy technology at the forefront of a global tipping point.
QUOTES
"We operate in remote regions around the world, and this project offers a template for cutting our operational reliance on fossil fuels," said Lewis Reford, head of Solar Ship’s Power Camps division. "There is no reason for buildings not to incorporate PV power in their top level design requirements, based on what our Brantford hangar project has shown us."
"We are thrilled to receive this award alongside Solar Ship from CanSIA," said Ryan Magee, Head of Renewable Solutions at Canadian Energy. "It’s an honour to be recognized by our Canadian industry peers as we push forward on combining fossil-free power with battery storage in commercial scale projects"
ABOUT CanSIA
The Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA) is a national trade association that represents the solar energy industry throughout Canada. Since 1992, CanSIA has worked to develop a strong, efficient, ethical and professional Canadian solar energy industry with capacity to provide innovative solar energy solutions and to play a major role in the global transition to a sustainable, clean-energy future. The CanSIA Game Changer Awards recognize the excellence of the many individuals and organizations that have helped the solar energy industry mature by pursuing the path that will lead us to an even brighter future.
ABOUT SOLAR SHIP
Solar Ship develops hybrid aircraft to serve cut-off places. The aircraft uses two forms of lift to augment its payload capacity: buoyant lift from lighter-than-air gas, combined with the aerodynamic lift of a wing. Combining a hybrid wing design with electric propulsion, the aircraft can fly large loads over long distances without the use of fossil fuels, making Solar Ship a preferred partner for accessing remote areas. Solar Ship’s Power Camps division deploys similar self-reliant technology in building integrated form.
ABOUT CANADIAN ENERGY
Canadian Energy is a 100% Canadian owned and operated industry leader in the design, manufacturing and wholesale distribution of renewable energy solutions, including solar panels, inverters and battery products. Their products are field-proven to offer the highest long-term value for your business, and are available coast-to-coast through a network of 20+ branches or 10,000+ dealers.
