MISSION
Solar Ship’s mission is to make aerospace products able to operate in remote areas without the need for infrastructure.
Remote areas are often cut off from the benefits of the global community due to lack of transport, communications and energy. In times of crisis this can lead to death, pain and economic loss. In times of peace, remote areas have the world’s natural assets and these need to be managed.

TRANSPORT
- Self-reliant transport is critical to giving remote areas the power of mobility without relying on the outside world
- Remote areas lacking infrastructure are the most expensive places in the world for transport
- During natural disasters, remote areas are often cut off from receiving critical supplies and people die
- When roads are blocked or destroyed, land transport stops functioning
- When fuel supplies run out or become scarce, all transport stops
ENERGY
- Transport in remote areas traditionally runs on gas and diesel, both of which are expensive and have unreliable supply
- Fossil fuels are heavy – transporting them 1000s of km into remote areas creates the world’s most expensive economies
- It makes no economic sense to transport this mass such long distances, so in any crisis remote areas are the first to be cut off
- Making renewable energy in remote areas can be done at a fraction of the cost of transporting fuel
- Renewable energy provides remote areas with self-reliance to power their transport, communications and shelter
COMMUNICATIONS
- The internet enables brainpower to find information and determine one’s own plans
- Internet coverage is expensive and unreliable in many remote areas – this hurts peoples’ ability to function
- The internet increases efficiency, and remote areas are the least efficient economies in the world
- In times of disaster, efficiencies mean the difference between life and death - communications are critical for disaster management
- In times of peace, the internet creates better health and education systems for remote areas
- Internet in remote areas provides remote entrepreneurs with a new world of possibilities to solve problem
VALUES
Solar Ship operates in a culture of continuous improvement with three pillars:
HEALTH
All team members, club members, stakeholders and crew must feel their health is our priority - not just before launching a flight mission to ensure safety, but as a continual priority.
SAFETY
All aviation operations must have safety as their top priority. A culture of safety starts with proven Standard Operating Procedures. Safety improves with persistent technical data collection, continual feedback from team members, club members, and stakeholders. Data and feedback are shared with our technical team who diagnoses specific areas of improvement. Each proposed improvement goes through a rigorous process of Test and Evaluation before being adopted. This process builds the culture of improvement.
RESPECT
All attempts to improve operations must listen to team members, club members, and stakeholders. All global communities are home to unique cultures with strong beliefs where listening campaigns are more important than advertising campaigns. Listening must include young and old people, conservative and radical. Listening must include continuous learning about how nature is changing and how Solar Ship’s products can be used to help people, plants, animals and ecosystems adjust to change.
