SENIOR TECHNICIAN

Solar Ship has been located in Brantford since 2012. Our Fabric Structures division specializes in the manufacture of engineered textile structures.
We are in search of a skilled Senior Technician to become part of the production team.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Technician is key to the success of the company as they are responsible for helping to lead the manufacturing of the engineered textile structures.
The role of Senior Technician demands strong practical skills, because there is large ‘hands on’ element to the work. In addition, Senior Technicians require strong communication skills, because they are the bridge between the production team and the Lead Technician.
The Senior Technician will have a strong understanding of the all the production methods used for fabric structures manufacturing, including automated cutting, hand cutting, sewing, RF welding, hot air welding, hot platen welding, adhesive bonding, maintenance and quality control.
The Senior Technicians will be directly responsible for specific work methods but will also be expected to give leadership in other methods when required.
On a day-to-day basis the Senior Technician will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the production floor through leadership of junior technicians and liaison with the Lead Technician.
From time to time, all employees are required to participate in activities outside their normal job description; for example: ground crew for test flights.

This is a full-time position based at the Brantford Municipal Airport, with some work in other locations in Canada, from time to time. Currently, the work hours are 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

PRIMARY DUTIES
- Assigning work according to the needs of the program.
- Ensuring the Technicians are properly trained,
- Ensuring that all machines and equipment are properly maintained and set up.
- Assisting in the preparation of quality plans and ensuring that they are adhered to.
- Ensuring that all production records (timesheets, quality records, stock records, health and safety records, maintenance records and so on) are correct and up to date.
- Ensuring health and safety requirements are adhered to.
- Direct production of products and test pieces.
- Assisting with material handling.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Support development and implementation of safe working practices
- All general tasks reasonably required by the management team.
- On occasion, the Senior Technician will be required to attend training courses to improve and maintain skill levels (these may be internal or external courses).
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Competence with hand tools and light machine tools
- Competence in one or more of the following areas:
- Automated cutting
- Hand cutting
- Sewing
- RF welding
- Hot air welding
- Hot platen welding
- Adhesive bonding
- Manual lifting
- Basic competence with computers
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and solve problems
- Ability to lift 25kg (50lbs)
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
