Solar Ship has been located in Brantford since 2012. Our Fabric Structures Division specializes in the manufacture of engineered textile structures.
We are expanding our fabric manufacturing and in search of technicians to be part of the production team.
The Technician has a key role in ensuring the successful operation of Solar Ship Fabric Structures.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Technician will initially specialize in one of the following production methods:
On a day to day basis the Technician will be responsible for the production of products and test pieces as well as help with material handling. Technicians will be expected to cross train on multiple production tasks in addition to their core discipline.
From time to time, all employees are required to participate in activities outside their normal job description, for example ground crew for test flights.

NORMAL HOURS & REMUNERATION
This is a full-time position based at the Brantford Municipal Airport, with some work in other locations in Canada, from time to time. Currently, the work hours are 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.

- Sewing
- RF welding
- Hot air welding
- Hot platen welding
- Adhesive bonding
On a day to day basis the Technician will be responsible for the production of products and test pieces as well as help with material handling. Technicians will be expected to cross train on multiple production tasks in addition to their core discipline.

PRIMARY DUTIES
- Complete production tasks in core discipline
- Complete production tasks in other disciplines, as training is received
- Material handling
- Daily machine set up and maintenance
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Actively participate in the Quality Control System
- Support the safe working practices
- All general tasks reasonably required by the Senior Technician, Lead Technician and management team
- From time to time the Technician will be required to attend training courses to improve and maintain skill levels (these may be internal or external courses)
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-2 years in a production facility
- High School Diploma
- Police check
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Competence with hand tools and light machine tools
- Competence in one or more of the following areas:
- Automated cutting
- Hand cutting
- Sewing
- RF welding
- Hot air welding
- Hot platen welding
- Adhesive bonding
- Manual lifting
- Basic competence with computers
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and solve problems
- Ability to lift 25kg (50lbs)
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Positive work ethic
- Attention to detail
- Flexibility
- Cooperative team member
